TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Know Ye, that Elijah Bish Enlisted from Jefferson County, Pennsylvania July 22, 1861, and was mustered into the United States service as a private of Company K, 11th Regt. Pennsylvania Res. Vol. Infantry under Capt. E.R. Brady and Col. Thomas Galligher to serve three years or duration the war. The Regt. was assigned to the 2nd Brig. 3rd Div., 1st Corps, Army of the Potomac. Said Elijah Bish was detailed to chop wood and while chopping he severed first and second toes of the left foot, in April 1862. He was confined in hospital at Alexandria, Va. nearly two months, then rejoined his Regt. He took part in 2nd Bull Run, Va. Aug 30, 1862, South Mt., Md. Sept 14th, Antietam, Md. Sept 17th, Fredericksburg, Va. Dec. 3d, and in 1863 Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 13th. He was discharged Dec. 31st, 1863 at Kettle Creek, Va. on account of re-enlistment the same day as a private in Co. K, 11th P.R.V.C. for three years under Capt. Schofield and Col. Sam M. Jackson. Shortly before Gettysburg in 1863, they had been transferred to the 5th Corps. In 1864 in Virginia said E. Bish took part in about twenty engagements; prominent among which were Wilderness, May 5-7, Spottsylvania, C.H. May 8-18, North Ann May 23-27, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor June 1-12, Petersburg, Weldon R.R. June 22-23. Mine explosion July 30, and Hatchers Run Oct. 27th. In 1865 Gravely Run Mar. 29th, White Oak Road March 31st., Five Forks April 1st and Lee”s surrender at Appomattox April 9th, 1865. Having served his country he was Honorably Discharged June 28, 1865 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on account of the close of the war.
