Oscar D. Madge, Co. G, 10th Pennsylvania Reserves

New York Times, May 28, 1919.

Oscar Downing Madge, a civil war veteran and the oldest employe of the Customs Service at this port, died on Monday at his home, 470 Fifteenth Street, South Brooklyn, at the age of 80 years. Mr. Madge entered the [10th] Pennsylvania Reserves as a drummer [in Company G] and was discharged a Sergeant Major after he had been wounded in action. He then entered the Treasury Department Service in Washington. Mr. Madge had been connected with the General Appraisers’ office in New York since its establishment.
