A Program of the Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps Historical Society (PRVCHS)
The York County Post, formally designated the Lt. Nathan Carman Post of York County, is the first officially established regional post of the Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps Historical Society. The PRVCHS Board of Directors approved the County Post program on September 7, 2025, as part of a broader initiative to expand the Societyโs reach and engagement within Pennsylvania. The York County Post was formally named and its coordinators appointed at the following meeting on October 5, 2025.
The Post serves as the local extension of the Societyโs mission within York County and surrounding communities, focusing on preserving, researching, and interpreting the history of the Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps. Its purpose is to strengthen community connections by promoting awareness of York Countyโs Civil War legacy, especially the service and sacrifice of those who served in the Pennsylvania Reserves.
Through its programs, the York County Post works to identify and document gravesites of local soldiers; organize public events and educational programs; and support genealogical and historical research that helps descendants and researchers better understand York Countyโs role in the war. The Post also seeks to cultivate partnerships with local historical societies, schools, civic organizations, and municipalities, encouraging collaboration on preservation and education initiatives. By engaging volunteers from the community, it provides meaningful opportunities for participation in the Societyโs ongoing projects and outreach efforts.
Structurally, the York County Post operates as a program of PRVCHS rather than as an independent organization. All financial, legal, and insurance matters are managed through the PRVCHS Board of Directors, and the Post does not maintain separate bank accounts or sign contracts on its own. Its activities and expenditures are reported quarterly to the PRVCHS Board of Directors, and any research or archival materials collected by the Post are shared with the Societyโs Historical Research and Genealogy Committee to be incorporated into the central archives.
The Post functions as a local operations and engagement arm of PRVCHS under the leadership of a volunteer County Post Coordinator, who oversees projects and reports directly to the Societyโs leadership. The York County Post also serves as the pilot model for the County Post system, helping refine policies, reporting methods, and community engagement strategies that will guide the establishment of future county-level posts throughout Pennsylvania.
While the official website of this Post is pending, we have set up a Facebook group which is available for the general public to join.
The Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps Historical Society was organized in 2004 by August Marchetti and Justin Sanders.
